You can't stop every spam call, but free settings already on your phone can cut down on them.
- Add family, doctors and other important numbers to Contacts first.
- Go to Settings → Apps → Phone, scroll to Screen Unknown Callers and choose Ask Reason for Calling or Silence.
- In the same screen, under Call Filtering, turn on the spam filter.
- To block one number, open Recents, tap the number or the Info button, then tap Block Caller.
These steps are for the Phone by Google app. Samsung and other phones may differ.
- Open the Phone app and tap More options → Settings → Caller ID and spam.
- Make sure See caller ID & spam is on.
- Turn on Filter spam calls. Filtered calls don't ring but stay in your call history.
- To block one number, tap the call, then tap Block or Report spam.
Also: register free at DoNotCall.gov. It stops sales calls from real companies that follow the law. It doesn't block calls, so scammers ignore it.
